Facebook uses credential specific adds

October 31, 2008 · Filed Under Internet · Comment

I recently got engaged, and when I changed my facebook status, I noticed I got alot of adds displaying wedding cakes, suite hire, car hire, flowers for your wedding day ect.

I thought it was just coincidence, but the more I saw them the more I started wondering, does facebook show me these adds because my status says Engaged? I did some digging and this is what I found about facebook adds.

I signed up to do some advertising with facebook, I never went through with the thing, I would’ve cost me a little too much. But some of the Questions that I was asked, already answered my question. Does facebook target a certain group of people?
Well… yes.

I was asked if I want to advertise with people in south africa alone or other countries, is it for males of females, whats the age range, ect.

I think that by targeting a certain group of people on face book really makes a difference. If I was not engaged, I would never have clicked on those ad’s and gone looking for flowers, cakes ect.

For the advertiser

Its a great way to narrow down your target audience. Instead of sending your wedding cake adds to all billion or so users, you will send it only to those who are actually interested in what you have. A 16 year old kid will not click on adds that sell wedding stuff. They will want to click on adds that sell games, movies ect.

For the public

You won’t get spammed or bothered by anything that you are not interested in. In that way, you won’t be mislead. I for one hate it when I get told there is something that interests me, but I’m not even remotely interested in it.

I think that its really good, and Facebook should promote it more and encourage the people do use the criteria function. It saves time and money.

Make money online.

There are a lot of ways you can make money online. Its one of the most talked about, blogged about topic on the internet.

Darren Rowse is a professional blogger and makes a living of the internet and blogging about making money online. So its obviously possible.

there are a few ways you can achieve this.

1. Advertising on your blog/website.
I use google Adsense to do my advertising and I make some money off that every month. The way it works.

2. Writing Reviews.
You can earn money writing reviews of products and websites. ciao.com does this. If you have writing skills and know a few things of the products they want reviewed, go for it. According to how good your review is, the more money you can make.

3. Online survey’s
I’ve tried this so many times but have never succeeded in actually making money form it. I never get a chance to finish the survey, or something goes wrong and they tell me I need to try again or another one. So I don’t believe in filling out survey’s online. Allthough, some people clain that it works and they make a good deal of money from it. So don’t write it off.

4. Selling
There is always the opportunity of selling your products online. It’s really simple to set up an online shop now days. If you are a good Cook, you can sell your food or even your Recipes. If you run a shop with goods for sale, you can very easily sell your goods online and ship it to whoever buys it.

So thats 4 ways you can make money online. I believe in the Advertising part of it the most. That is where I get a little extra money each month. If you are trying to make some money online, give them all a bash and see what works for you.

Internet marketing

October 6, 2008 · Filed Under Internet · 1 Comment

I thought I’d let you all know what Internet marketing is all about. What it is, and how it works.
(how it works, later.)

Internet marketing, also referred to as web marketing, online marketing, Internet advertising, or eMarketing, is the marketing of products or services over the Internet.

The Internet has brought many unique benefits to marketing, one of which being lower costs for the distribution of information and media to a global audience. The interactive nature of Internet marketing, both in terms of providing instant response and eliciting responses, is a unique quality of the medium. Internet marketing is sometimes considered to have a broader scope because it refers to digital media such as the Internet, e-mail, and wireless media; however, Internet marketing also includes management of digital customer data and electronic customer relationship management (ECRM) systems.

Internet marketing ties together creative and technical aspects of the Internet, including design, development, advertising, and sales. Internet marketing does not simply entail building or promoting a website, nor does it mean placing a banner ad on another website. Effective Internet marketing requires a comprehensive strategy that synergizes a given company’s business model and sales goals with its website function and appearance, focusing on its target market through proper choice of advertising type, media, and design.

Internet marketing also refers to the placement of media along different stages of the customer engagement cycle through search engine marketing (SEM), search engine optimization (SEO), banner ads on specific websites, e-mail marketing, and Web 2.0 strategies. In 2008 The New York Times working with comScore published an initial estimate to quantify the user data collected by large Internet-based companies. Counting four types of interactions with company websites in addition to the hits from advertisements served from advertising networks, the authors found the potential for collecting upward of 2,500 pieces of data on average per user per month.

Online Videos, the way to go?

I’m sure all of you know Youtube.

Here are some Stats for youtube:

Youtube according to Alexa

As you can see YouTube has a whole bunch of visitors a day.
Why?

My theory is: people now days get lazy when it comes to reading and finding things. Therefor, if they can just sit back and  watch what they are looking for, they’ll do it. Comedy is Great via videos. Like they say: “a picture is worth a thousand words” How much is a video worth?
Video clips are now so Easily and widely available. You don’t have to look far too find a video.

Videos and pictures stick to people much better than a few words. I, for one, will have a whole video played out in my head for a day or so. But when it comes to reading something, I only remember a few parts, “here and there.” I don’t know why.
I believe that everyone has some kind of Photographic memory. (if I can call it that) where you are more likely to remember what you have seen, In a picture or video, than what you have heard or read.

Videos are great because they can be very intruging and capturing. They use both your sight and your hearing. Videos are also great for advertising. How many T.V adds do you see on the TV every night? can you actually count them? How long do you see them for? When are they displayed.

When it comes to online video’s you can view the videos anytime you want and as many times as you want.
For instance, www.global-video-pages.com offers a service like that. You post your video advert on there and it stays on… always.

You don’t have to wait for your “time Slot” to come, for people to see your add.

The Future: I think that videos are going to become very interactive. You will be able to choose what the video does and you will be able to change it as it goes. I think you will be able to controll the outcome of movies.
