Importance of the layout of your website

When I go to a website, the first thing I see is the top right of that website. I don’t know why, but it catches my attention.
After that, if something sticks out, that will grab my attention. But if the page looks messy and I struggle to find what I’m looking for. I end up leaving that site in a hurry.

Why?

It confuses me.  I feel like that person/company don’t really know what they are doing. In today’s day and age people are lazy. Its not like the old days where you would pick up the telephone book and look for the telephone number you want. You just go looking for it on the internet. Now if someone is looking for your company and they come across your website. They will look for your contact details. If they can’t find it easily, they will stop looking and try to find someone else. You just lost a client.

If the website is pleasing to the eye, people tend to stay longer. If there is a lot happening and you can still keep their attention by having a well laid out site, you have accomplished your goal with your website.

You website should not look empty nor over full. You will have to find the balance for yourself.

Your logo should be well placed, ie. somewhere people can see it clearly. That way, your visitors will know that they have found the right website. I think you call it brand recognition. If your logo is hiding somewhere at the bottom of you page, it will take the people a while to find it. If they are not in the mood for searching, they will leave, not knowing that they were on the right website.

So you see why its important for you to spend time, and maybe more money on your website?
It helps, and really makes a difference.
