New Seacom Cable adsl
Posted on 05. Oct, 2009 by Robert in Internet
I got given an ADSL account over the weekend that uses the seacom cable. All my traffic goes through the new seacom cable.
When I got given the account, I was not sure if it will work on my current ADSL line. I set it up on my router, and it worked with no hassles at all. So the new seacom ADSL accounts will work on your normal Telkom ADSL line. I was quite pleased about that. Web africa are the ISP and its only a trial account. So far my internet experience has been great.
I have a 512Kbs telkom ADSL line and in the past I would never get close to downloading at the given speed of 512. The best I ever got was about 350 to 400kbs. I immediately did a speed test and did a download of a couple of Mb’s. I constantly got 510kbs to 530kbs. It was a really great thing to see.
I then proceeded to play World of Warcraft to see how the latency is and if there is an improvement in gameplay. There was. My ping in the game went down from about 500+- to a very nice 200+- The response time I got in the game was amazing, and I actually did better in the game than I have in the past. (it might just be all in my head, but it felt good)
I started to browse around on Youtube too see how the videos load. It was like experiencing youtube for the first time. There was no pausing of videos, and I did not have to reload the page at all. I could actually watch videos in High Quality.
So, is the new seacom Cable faster and better than our current cables? Definitely
the account that I got was unshaped and has a 10 gig limit. I don’t know what the prices are going to be, But i really hope that the adsl accounts through webAfrica that goes via the new Seacom cable are well priced.
I will try and keep you all updated about the seacom cable as I get new info.
